A Striking Committee is elected by the full Council at the time of the election of the County Warden. The role of the Striking Committee is to nominate members to serve on outside boards, commissions or committees. The Striking Committee meets in an election year, following the Inaugural meeting of County Council and makes recommendations to County Council for appointees to various Boards and Committees. The report of the Striking Committee is presented for approval by County Council.
The County of Essex is a funding partner with many organizations throughout the region. To ensure a degree of accountability for the financial commitments made by the County, members of Council are appointed to serve on numerous external Committees and Boards. Nominations to these organizations are made by the Striking Committee.

911 Technical Advisory Committee
LaSalle Deputy Mayor, Michael Akpata chairs this committee, which oversees the Windsor-Essex County Enhanced 911 Systems.

Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee
Kingsville Deputy Mayor, Kimberly DeYong sits on this committee, along with persons with disabilities and representatives from the disability community. This committee promotes accessibility and public awareness and assists in preparing and implementing the County's Multi-Year Accessibility Plan. The Province of Ontario has released helpful guidelines on 'How to Serve on a Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee
The ECAAC meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month.
Amherstburg Deputy Mayor, Chris Gibb; Lakeshore Mayor, Tracey Bailey; Essex Mayor, Sherry Bondy; and County Deputy Warden, Joe Bachetti serve on this board along with members of the community.
Meetings are held at various library branches at 7 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month, except for July and August.

Essex Region Conservation Authority
Essex County Council does not directly make appointments to ERCA, which was established in 1973 to manage the natural resources of this region in partnership with local municipalities and the province.
Essex County's local municipalities each appoint two members to the board. Four members come from Windsor City Council and one member from the Township of Pelee.
The board meets monthly at the Civic Centre.
Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority
Essex Deputy Mayor, Rob Shepley; Lakeshore Deputy Mayor, Kirk Walstedt; LaSalle Deputy Mayor, Michael Akpata; County Warden, Hilda MacDonald and Tecumseh Mayor, Gary McNamara serve on the board for EWSWA, which is a municipal agency created with Windsor to provide regional waste and recycling programs.
The City of Windsor appoints an equal number of board members. A rotational system switches the balance of power between the city and county each year.
The board meets at the Civic Centre at 4:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month. If the Monday is a holiday, the meeting is rescheduled for the second Wednesday of that month.

Kingsville Mayor, Dennis Rogers sits on the Food Policy committee.
Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island
Kingsville Mayor, Dennis Rogers; LaSalle Mayor, Crystal Meloche and County Warden, Hilda MacDonald serve on the TWEPI board along with representatives from Windsor.
There is no set schedule for board meetings, held at various locations in the city and county.
Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation
Essex Mayor, Sherry Bondy; and County Deputy Warden, Joe Bachetti serve on the WECHC board, which provides well-maintained, safe and affordable housing for city and county residents.
The city appoints the board, which consists of city and county councillors, tenant and community representatives. The board meets at noon on the last Thursday of every month.
Windsor Essex County Health Unit
Amherstburg Mayor, Michael Prue; Essex Deputy Mayor, Rob Shepley; County Deputy Warden, Joe Bachetti and County Warden, Hilda MacDonald serve on the health unit board along with their colleagues from Windsor and provincial appointees.
The health unit oversees the delivery of mandatory medical and wellness programs and service guidelines and promotes improved community health.
Meetings are held at 4 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month except for July and August.

Windsor Essex Community Advisory Committee
Tecumseh Mayor, Gary McNamara sits on this committee and is one of 16 voting members along with 8 non-voting members, including one from the County. County Council provides a nominee to Windsor City Council, which ultimately appoints the members.
This committee is an advocate for affordable housing and serves as an advisory body to City Council. The committee meets at the call of the Chair.
County Warden, Hilda MacDonald serves on this board. IWE is a not-for-profit organization the County funds jointly with Windsor to promote regional economic development and create and retain jobs. The Windsor mayor is also on this board along with area business leaders.
The board meets at 4 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month.

Windsor-Essex County Opioid and Substance Strategy Leadership Committee
LaSalle Deputy Mayor, Michael Akpata serves on this committee, WECOSS is dedicated to reducing the impacts of opioid misuse in our community, along with leaders from local health and education fields.
