Our Partners

The County Wide Active Transportation System is a partnership between the County of Essex, local municipalities and other regional agencies. CWATS also relies on support and contributions from community partners.

Project Partners

Project partners appoint representative to the CWATS committee, which meets six times per year and holds at least one session to gather input from the public.

Projects are identified and funded jointly, with the County of Essex paying 40 per cent and the local municipality paying 60 per cent.

Community Partners

Part of the CWATS strategy is to build a community of interest around walking, cycling and the need to continue enhancing active transportation corridors around the region. Our community partners help us by providing information and support:

Ambassador Bikes: A Windsor store that sells and repairs bikes. They have been a sponsor of CWATS since its inception.
CAA: The agency has a Bike Assist program and an app.
Ontario By Bike: A comprehensive website with information on cycling routes, tours and safety
Share the Road Cycling Coalition: An organization dedicated to the safety of on-road cyclists
Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island: Our regional tourism agency's website has a cycling section
Transportation Option: Promotes the benefits of active transportation
Trans Canada Trail: A registered charity devoted to a recreational trail spanning the country
Great Lakes Waterfront Trail: 165 km of this more than 3000-km trail are in Essex County
Windsor Eats: A local site promoting cycling, dining and tourism.
Running Factory: A store with two Windsor locations that has been a long-time sponsor of CWATS.
