Open Data
The County of Essex has an Open Data portal to increase transparency, boost engagement and support research, collaboration and information sharing. Anyone can download and republish the data subject to the terms of our Open Licence Agreement.
What is Open Data?
- Open Data is data that is made available to the public to be freely used and redistributed by anyone.
- Our Open Data is available in machine-readable format and is within the agreements of our Open Data Licence.
Why is Open Data important?
- Greater government transparency.
- Improved customer service.
- Supports research and innovation.
- Community engagement, collaboration and information sharing.
How accurate is the data?
You agree to the terms of use when you download the data. As a user of the Open Data catalogue, you are responsible to validate all downloaded data.
What is not included in open data?
Data in the Open Data catalogue has passed a risk assessment.
The following is not considered Open Data:
- Personal information.
- Data that identifies individuals.
- Data that may pose a security concern.
- Confidential information.
Property and ownership parcels are licensed through MPAC and Teranet and will not be available for download.
Federal and Provincial Open Data
Both the federal and provincial governments have open data programs, catalogues and resources. Learn more about the Government of Canada's Open Data and the Government of Ontario's Open Data.
Will the County add more Open Data?
The County continues to identify and make available new data as appropriate. Your feedback will help determine what datasets to prioritize. Please submit your ideas through our feedback survey.
