Recognition of Prior Service:

EWEMS wishes to recognize qualified and practicing paramedics from other regions, who are choosing to dedicate themselves in changing their primary work for Essex-Windsor EMS. New Paramedics who can successfully verify previous active service will be recognized for both wage and vacation benefits upon hire (you do not have wait for your probationary period to expire!) Conditions apply.

Part-Time Scheduling Opportunities:

  • Minimum of 5-days and 5-nights in a defined 4-week period
  • Minimum of 1 consecutive weekend in a defined 4-week period
  • Minimum of 3 statutory holidays (and its associated weekend)
  • Week of March Break (Monday to Sunday)
  • October 31st
  • Either December 24/25 OR December 31/January 1
  • Option to provide additional availability
  • Shift exchanges permitted
  • Pelee Island shifts – equal distribution to all part-time
  • Ability to request exemptions to the policy
  • Flexible scheduling options for those working for multiple employers

Part-Time Scheduling Policy Highlights:

  • Essex-Windsor EMS recognizes part-time paramedics may work for alternate primary employers and offers flexible scheduling options upon receipt of employment verification letter.
  • Part-time Paramedics receive payment, as part of their regular bi-weekly pay, for vacation earned, corresponding to their years of service.

Pregnancy and Parental Leave:

  • 80% supplemental compensation for 15-weeks for pregnancy leave
  • 80% supplemental compensation for 10-weeks for parental leave

Relocation Expenses:

$2,000 relocation benefit (receipts required).

Longevity Pay:

  • After 5 years      $70.00
  • After 10 years     $140.00
  • After 15 years     $210.00
  • After 20 years     $280.00
  • After 25 years     $350.00

Shift Premium:

$0.85 per hour for all hours worked during a shift that commences between the hours of midnight. and 4 a.m.

Out-of-Town Allowance:

When a paramedic works out of town in excess of 60 km from home base:

  • Breakfast: $12.00
  • Lunch: $20.00
  • Dinner: $30.00

Those working on Pelee Island will receive a daily per diem of $30.00 for every 24-hour period.

Clothing Allowance:

  • Safety Footwear allowance of $200.00 annually (may be carried over to a maximum of $400 per year).
  • Cleaning of all uniforms worn by paramedics.
  • Annual uniform allotment the same for all employees requiring uniforms (full-time, part-time, casual)

Essex-Windsor EMS Paramedics make use of state-of-the art equipment so they can do their best work and provide patients with optimal outcomes. 

The cutting edge equipment our Paramedics use every shift includes:

  • Zoll X-Series Cardiac Monitors/Defibrillators
  • Stryker PowerLoad Pro XT Stretchers
  • Lucas Chest Compression System
  • McGrath Video Laryngoscope
  • Gym Equipment in EMS stations

Service Support:

Essex-Windsor EMS offers comprehensive training to team members and opportunities for continuous learning, including a tuition assistance program of up to $2,000 per year.

We have a Peer Support team to promote mental wellness and a Cheers for Peers program where colleagues recognize each other for their contributions to morale in the workplace.

We know physical wellness is essential as well so we have gym equipment in our stations so you can catch a quick workout before, during or after your shift.

We also have an annual awards program and celebrate the lives we save every year in a public ceremony that brings together Paramedics and survivors of cardiac events.
