Accessibility Awareness Walk Set for Saturday in LaSalle
The Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee is inviting the media and the public to the second annual Celebrate Our Abilities Accessibility Awareness Walk on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex in LaSalle.
“We all have unique abilities and this walk is an opportunity for us to come together and celebrate that individuality while advocating for improved accessibility for everyone,” said Christine Easterbrook, Chair of the ECAAC.
“We have made tremendous progress when it comes to removing barriers in this community, but there is still much work to do to make it accessible and inclusive for everyone regardless of their abilities.”
The ECAAC works in an advisory role for the County of Essex and Essex County Council. The committee shares ideas and makes recommendations about access to public spaces, design guidelines and policy development. The committee shares stories and encourages community discussion on its Facebook page.
The Celebrate Our Abilities Accessibility Awareness Walk is meant to bring communities together to celebrate all abilities and to raise awareness in support of the disability community. Dozens attended last year’s inaugural walk and organizers are hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.
