Agricultural Lot Size Study Underway
The County of Essex has engaged Jones Consulting from Barrie, Ontario to prepare an Agricultural Lot Size Study. The proposal from Jones Consulting was chosen from submissions received in response to a Request for Proposals issued by the County.
The purpose of the study is to determine the most appropriate minimum parcel size for various types of agricultural lots within the County, including, but not limited to, new lots for agricultural uses, specialty crop areas, and agriculture-related uses. The study will consider the need to protect this limited resource while balancing farm operations and economic interests.Local Official Plans currently have a range of minimum sizes, and the results of this study will inform County Council and provide for the adoption of a consistent approach across the County for establishing minimum agricultural lot sizes and policies for agricultural severances.
Individuals and organizations interested in providing input into the study should contact Mr. Ray Duhamel, Jones Consulting, at 705-734-2538, ext. 226, or rduhamel@jonesconsulting.com
