Be Alert for New Stop Signs in Comber on County Road 46
Drivers entering Comber on County Road 46 (Middle Road) should slow down and be alert for new stop signs that are being installed at the intersection with Highway 77 (Main Street).
Essex County council has approved the creation of an all-way stop on the south side of Comber after concerns about traffic were raised by residents and Lakeshore council.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has determined the traffic volume on the two roads doesn’t qualify the intersection for a traffic light, so the county worked with the ministry, Lakeshore and property owners in the area to come up with the plan to erect stop signs on County Road 46.
There are already oversized stop signs on Highway 77 at the intersection, as well as flashing red beacons. The stop signs on County Road 46 are expected to be put up shortly. The speed limit on both roads as they approach the intersection is 50 km/h.
The county and ministry will monitor the all-way stop to see if modifications or changes are needed in the future.
