Celebrate Our Abilities Accessibility Awareness Walk Set For Sept. 14 in LaSalle

The Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee is hosting the second annual Celebrate Our Abilities Accessibility Awareness Walk on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex in LaSalle.

Participants will gather at the pavilion for 11 a.m. and then set off on a short walk. Lunch and refreshments will be provided and a DJ will spin some tunes. The event is free and participants can register in advance at countyofessex.ca/walk.

The Celebrate Our Abilities Accessibility Awareness Walk is meant to bring communities together to celebrate all abilities and to raise awareness in support of the disability community. Dozens attended last year’s inaugural walk and organizers are hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.

The ECAAC works in an advisory role for the County of Essex and Essex County Council. The committee shares ideas and makes recommendations about access to public spaces, design guidelines and policy development. The committee shares stories and encourages community discussion on its Facebook page.
