Essex-Windsor EMS Paramedics Honoured with Governor General’s Exemplary Service Awards

A dozen Paramedics with Essex-Windsor EMS were awarded Governor General’s Exemplary Service Awards during a ceremony Monday night at St. Clair College Centre for the Arts.

Combined, the Paramedics have more than 180 years of exemplary service.

“You not only provide exceptional care and comfort in distressing times, but you are active and engaged in our community, donating your time and inspiring the next generation of paramedics to follow in your heroic footsteps,” said Warden Gary McNamara.

“You have extremely difficult jobs during the best of times and these last few years have certainly not been the best of times. Thank you for standing so tall and so strong during the pandemic. Your efforts saved lives and our community owes you a debt of gratitude.”

Recipients of the Exemplary Service Medal must have completed at least 20 years of service with EMS, at least ten years of which must have been served in the performance of duties involving potential risk. As well, they will “have performed their duties in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.”

Sylvia Jones, Ontario’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, attended the ceremony as did Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, Warden McNamara and local MPPs.
