Essex-Windsor EMS Paramedics Win Gold to Kick Off Paramedic Services Week

Three Essex-Windsor EMS Paramedics are bringing home gold for the fourth consecutive year from an international competition that tests their medical rescue skills and smarts in a series of simulated emergencies.

Paramedics Shawn May, Ryan Cloutier and Adrien Bezaire joined forces with Dr. Erika Jamrichova from Slovakia to win Gold in the Physician category at the Rallye Rejviz – the largest international Paramedic competition in the world. The squad beat out more than 20 other teams in the competition that has been held in the Czech Republic each year since 1997.

Essex-Windsor EMS Paramedics are all smiles after winning Gold in the Rallye Rejviz international paramedic competition.

Paramedic Mike Filiaut, himself a past Gold medal winner, travelled with the team and was a judge in this year’s competition.

“Essex-Windsor EMS Paramedics are among the best in the world and their repeated success in this prestigious international competition is well-deserved and the result of hard work and dedication,” said Essex-Windsor EMS Chief Bruce Krauter.

“The knowledge they gain from participating in these events with their peers from around the world is shared with their colleagues back here at home and helps us provide the residents of Windsor-Essex with the best possible pre-hospital emergency care.”

The four-peat is a fitting start to Paramedic Services Week as the theme this year is “Celebrating Successes.”

“Essex-Windsor EMS Paramedics play an essential role in protecting and promoting the health and wellbeing of local residents,” said Krauter. “They are also relentless community boosters who donate their time and expertise to educational campaigns and charitable causes.”

Paramedics will be celebrating Survivor Day this Thursday at St. Clair College Centre for the Arts and they will be stationed at Devonshire Mall greeting residents from Friday through Sunday. Take a tour of an ambulance, check out unique displays and see how your CPR skills measure up against Heart and Stroke guidelines.
