Grand Opening of the Vermilion Wastewater Treatment Facility!
Today we are excited to commission our state-of-the-art Wastewater Treatment Facility which has been funded collaboratively by the federal, provincial and municipal governments. This plant will service the needs of the Town of Vermilion while protecting our environment for many years to come.
Quick Facts
- The old facility was commissioned in 1976 and was a conventional activated sludge treatment facility
- Was replaced because was unable to meet current treatment standards.
- Preliminary design began in 2015
- Detailed design in started in 2017
- Tendering in fall of 2018
- Construction began in spring of 2019
Preliminary engineering for this facility wrapped up in June of 2017, with detailed design beginning in August 2018, and construction beginning in May of 2019.
The total construction project cost was $20,000,000.
Vermilion was fortunate to receive $8,083,680 of the funding through the Clean Water Wastewater Fund and $3,400,000 from the Alberta Municipal Water Wastewater Program.
$1,000,000 came from the Municipal Sustainability Initiative, with the balance of the funding coming from municipal contributions.
