Delegations

Northern Lights Library System (NLLS) – Mr. James MacDonald and Ms. Vicky Lefebvre

Mr. James MacDonald and Ms. Vicky Lefebvre provided an overview with a presentation about NLLS. Mr. MacDonald explained the grants the municipalities receive. Provincial Government announced on March 1, 2023 will be moving to the 2019 population list.

Alberta Broadband Networks – Mr. Ken Spangler

Mr. Ken Spangler provided an overview of the Broadband project. Construction has continued over the winter months. The network is fully operational and getting good responses from residential/commercial customers.

Rotary Club of Vermilion – Mr. Erwin Warkentin

Mr. Erwin Warkentin provided an overview of a toddler playground Rotary Club project. This is potentially to be located at hospital hill (green space north of the hospital) around park drive. The Rotary Club is looking for a letter of support from the Town to submit to the federal/provincial governments to complete an application for the grant package.

New Business

Public Commentary

Two residents attended public commentary. Ms. Phyllis Elmer was concerned with neighbors pushing snow into alleyways and the removal of that snow. Mr. Cliff McAuley also attended to speak to previous correspondence to Mayor and Council.

Public Commentary Session Procedures

Council reviewed the procedures and discussed the length of time given to public to speak. Administration to gather comparisons from other Councils to be brought back for discussion.

Updating Investment Policy for 2023

Council approved the updated Investment Policy for 2023 with three-year review period.

Vermilion Regional River Alliance (VRRA)

Council discussed the invitation for the Mayor to attend the upcoming VRRA Meeting in April for a political debate.
