Highlights from Council November

Delegations

Sgt. Dunsmore (via Zoom) – RCMP Detachment Vermilion Quarterly Community Policing Report – July 1 to September 30, 2021

Sgt. Dunsmore reviewed staffing and indicated that they are fully staffed. He explained the RCMP Provincial Policing Report template that is used throughout the province is easier to read and in a more consistent format.

Discussion around the three priority areas: Crime Reduction – Property Crime, Police/Community Relations – Consultations and Connections, and Traffic Enforcement. These are the three area goals for the detachment to focus on over the next year.

Discussion around property crime being an issue throughout Alberta. Sgt. Dunsmore indicated that the decrease in property crime is a result of prevention efforts by members.

Bylaws

Bylaw 4-2021 – Operating Line of Credit

Council gave first, second, third and final reading to Bylaw 4-2021.

New Business

Amendment to the Committee and Board Appointments

Council approved the revision to Committee and Board Appointments to reflect the change of the Town/County Intermunicipal Liaison to Kevin Martin and Kirby Whitlock as alternate.

Amendment to Regular Meetings of Council Schedule 2021-2022

Council approved the revision to the Regular Meetings of Council Schedule 2021/2022 to reflect the removal of the November 16, 2021 Regular Meeting of Council date.

Signature Authority for the Town of Vermilion

Council established the signing authorities as two of the following three individuals; Mayor Gregory Throndson, Kevin Lucas, CAO or Brian Leibel, Director of Finance and Administration.

Appointment of FCSS Advisory Committee Members

Council approved the recommendation to appoint the list of members submitted for the FCSS Advisory Committee effective November 2, 2021.

A number of Committee Reports were received for information.

Library

Request to Use Reserves

Council approved the use of $8,100 in funds from future building reserve for concrete work and engineering fees to increase building accessibility of the Vermilion Public Library.
