Join us for the "Celebrate our Abilities" Awareness Walk on June 23!
The Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee (ECAAC) is pleased to share their plans for a free community event on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Vollmer Recreation Complex in LaSalle. The “Celebrate our Abilities Awareness Walk” is meant to bring communities together to celebrate all abilities and raise awareness in support of the disability community.
“It is an opportunity for us to come together for a few hours and honour each other’s individuality and uniqueness” said Christine Easterbrook, Chair of the ECAAC. “Our mandate as a committee is to share information surrounding accessibility and act as advocates by creating awareness about the many challenges faced which hopefully improves accessibility of all kinds in our region”.
The ECCAC works as an advisory role to the County of Essex and Essex County Council. They often share ideas and make recommendations surrounding access to public spaces, design guidelines, policy development and recently they’ve held an annual workshop that invites participants to hear and learn from those with a variety of different disabilities.
The Celebrate our Abilities Awareness Walk is being held rain or shine on Saturday June 23, 2018, starting at 10:30 am. Attendees can register for free by visiting https://celebrateourabilities.eventbrite.ca . Participants will also receive a small gift, light lunch and refreshments (while supplies last). There wikll be music and more, so we hope to see you there!
