MADD Praises County of Essex for Supporting Campaign 911
The local leader for Mothers Against Drunk Driving praised Essex County and several local municipalities Thursday for their “magnificent” work in support of the campaign against impaired driving.
“We couldn’t be more thankful to the County of Essex,” said Chaouki Hamka following a press conference outside Caesars Windsor about MADD’s Campaign 911. “The support from Essex County has been magnificent.”
Campaign 911 is a national awareness initiative involving the installation of signs alongside roadways to encourage motorists to report impaired drivers by phoning 911.
The new signs were unveiled Thursday at an event attended by police officers from several municipalities, Leamington Deputy Mayor Larry Verbeke, and Jane Mustac, Director of Infrastructure Services/County Engineer.
Funding for the signs was provided by the Caesars Windsor Cares program, but Hamka still required permission to install the signs in local municipalities. He made the rounds earlier this year to secure support.
The County of Essex agreed to install signs along several County roads. Amherstburg, Leamington and Tecumseh each agreed to install about ten signs. Counting signs that are or will be installed in Windsor, there will soon be about 110 signs in the region.
Hamka praised Mustac along with Engineering Technician Terri Marentette and the Infrastructure Services Department for erecting the signs in a timely and efficient manner.
“We wouldn’t be getting this type of exposure without the County’s support,” said Hamka.
