Pilot Project to Promote Safety on Country Road 2 Completed

A County of Essex active transportation pilot project to enhance safety on County Road 2 (Old Tecumseh Road) in Lakeshore has concluded.

The bollards and concrete posts set up along the cycling and pedestrian lanes in June are being removed to prepare the road for winter maintenance.

“These were part of our pilot project to enhance the existing facilities on this portion of the CWATS network. Thank you to all who provided feedback. We’ll be assessing the pilot and determining a solution going forward,” said Diana Radulescu, active transportation coordinator.

Residents and road users have been providing feedback to the county since the temporary bollards and concrete posts were erected along a five-kilometre stretch of County Road 2 from East Pike Creek Road to County Road 22. County crews also applied green paint to sections of the bike lanes to further differentiate them from the roadway.

The road is part of the County Wide Active Transportation (CWATS) network, which spans some 400 km across all seven local municipalities in Essex County and links to trail systems in Windsor and Chatham-Kent. Construction over the next 15 years will see the network of trails, pathways and signed routes expand to about 800 km.
