Waste Authority Announces New General Manager

Michelle Bishop takes over Monday as the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority’s new general manager.

Bishop, who has been the EWSWA’s manager of finance and administration for the last 10 years, is a strong and well-respected leader, said board Chair Aldo DiCarlo.

“Michelle’s professionalism and work ethic are outstanding,” he said. “Her knowledge of the Authority is a big asset as we move forward.”

Vice-chair Gary Kaschak said Bishop has the confidence of the board and is well qualified for her new position.

“Michelle is a pleasure to work with and we are thrilled to have her at the helm,” he said.

Bishop has been acting general manager since April 1, when her predecessor, Eli Maodus, retired after 30 years with the EWSWA.

She was hired as manager of finance and administration in 2010 after working in the County of Essex finance department for two years. She is a graduate of St. Clair College and a chartered professional accountant who worked in public accounting and the automotive industry prior to joining the County staff.

Bishop is a lifelong resident of Windsor-Essex and a married mother of two. She is the first woman to hold the top job at the EWSWA.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of Windsor and Essex County,” she said. “Managing our community’s waste in an environmentally responsible way is an important and essential service. I know I have a solid team behind me ensuring we do the best job possible.”

The EWSWA, established in 1994, is responsible for providing an economical and environmentally conscious integrated solid waste management system for the County of Essex and the City of Windsor. It does this through processes that include reduction, reuse, recycling, composting and landfilling of waste.
